discover the hidden heart of donegal
Behind the photos of stunning scenery, Donegal's hidden heart is waiting to be discovered. To understand this county you need to slow down. You need time to stand and stare, to glimpse over stone walls, watch the rabbits playing in the fields and listen to birds calling from the trees. Time to be still and look for the fleeting glimpse of the wild - a herd of deer grazing in a wooded glade, a red fox bounding across the heather, a golden eagle soaring in blue skies.
Wild Days Out specialises in walks that uncover this hidden wilderness. We take you on paths only the locals know. Whether you prefer a gentle woodland stroll or long walks through rugged countryside, we'll share the hidden secrets of the Donegal wilds with you.
Small is beautiful
The joy of Donegal is that you don't need to hike for hours to find a patch of wilderness. It's right on our doorstep, if only you know where to look.
Our strolls are based in the East of the County and are one to two hours long. Typically they are a mix of woodland and farm track. Mostly flat, they offer an accessible way to escape the busy-ness of the day to day and immerse yourself in the beautiful Irish countryside.
Example walks include: strolling through Drumboe woods in Stranorlar; exploring our heritage around ancient Raphoe; climb to the top of the Steeple Tower at Convoy.
Great for: everyone with a minimum level of fitness; couples, groups, families.
Half or full-day hikes
Lift the lid off hidden Donegal with time to get into and savour the wild spaces. These walks offer an immersive experience in a way of life that is still connected with our Celtic ancestors.
These walks are upwards of three hours long and offer varied terrain. Typically they include a mix of woodland walking, traditional farmland, bog tracks and hillside paths. Walks can be modified according to your fitness levels and walking preferences.
Example walks include:
- Living History - Aghaveagh. Witness how human and wildnerness have ebbed and flowed over hundreds of years on this ancient track through the Finn Valley
- View from the top - Barnesmore. Enjoy one of the best views in Donegal from this accessible hill climb.

I've been walking with this group since early June- each walk has been around Stranolar, but each one has been different with stunning scenery and gorgeous greenery and great chat and snippets of local history! The weather has been great this summer, but even when it rained the company was always fun and there was always some beautiful view around the corner. You should try it!
Thanks very much for a great walk this morning and great company.
